Expungement is a resource many clients find beneficial especially for their professional lives.  If you would like to seek an expungement or discuss your eligibility for an expungment, contact us here at the law office of the Houston criminal defense attorney today.

An expungement is a legal proceeding to dismiss any record of a criminal act.  In the state of Texas, not everyone is eligible for an expungement. You can only receive an expungment for arrests that did not lead to a guilty conviction or for Class C misdemeanors.  In the case of a Class C misdemeanor, you must have received deferred adjudication, completed community supervision, and any other requirements at the judge’s discretion.

If a non-governmental entity (e.g. an employer) runs a background check on you, your conviction will not show up.  You will not have to answer yes to the prior arrest/conviction question on the application.  You will also become eligible for student loans, housing assistance, and more types of professional licenses and certificates.  Some clients just want the peace of mind of knowing that no one else has access to the record of a mistake they once made. All are good reasons for an expungement.

Even if you are not eligible for an expungment, you may be eligible for record sealing or another record protecting service.  If you are interested in discussing your options for an expungement, contact us here at the law office of the Houston criminal defense attorney today.
